ASALS Waters is committed to improving access to clean and safe drinking water for rural communities in arid and semi-arid lands. Through borehole drilling, rainwater harvesting systems, water trucking, and rehabilitation of existing water infrastructure, we help communities overcome chronic water scarcity challenges. Our water initiatives aim to reduce the time spent—especially by women and children—fetching water, improve health outcomes, and support livelihoods dependent on water.

We believe that access to clean water must be accompanied by safe sanitation and good hygiene to make a real impact. ASALS Waters supports the construction of latrines, handwashing stations, and community-led total sanitation (CLTS) campaigns. We work with schools, health centers, and households to increase awareness and adoption of hygienic practices, aiming to reduce waterborne diseases and enhance dignity, particularly for women and girls.

Climate change disproportionately affects arid and semi-arid areas, making our work more urgent than ever. We promote tree planting, rangeland restoration, soil and water conservation, and climate-smart agriculture. By empowering communities to protect and restore their environment, we help them adapt to climate variability and build long-term resilience.

Sustainable change comes from within. ASALS Waters invests in community empowerment by supporting water user committees, training community health promoters, and facilitating access to income-generating activities. We prioritize the inclusion of women, youth, and marginalized groups to ensure that everyone has a voice in shaping their community’s future.

Access to water transforms livelihoods. By reducing the burden of water collection, we free up time for women to engage in income-generating activities, education, and community leadership. We support savings groups, skills training, and small-scale enterprises that enhance economic resilience and promote gender equality.

We provide training in water management, hygiene promotion, climate-smart agriculture, and entrepreneurship. Our capacity-building programs ensure that communities have the skills and knowledge needed to maintain water systems, practice good hygiene, and adapt to changing environmental conditions.
